The Toroidal Lift Force Engine
Pat Pend, invented by O.J. Birkestrand The Toroidal Lift Force Engine, is the end result of ~15 years of analysis, experimentation and design studies of small wind and water machines. It draws elements from old farm wind mills, jet engines and ice boats, as well as my earlier wind machines. It has two outputs: shaft torque and direct thrust. Although it uses the same power lift turbine blade layout and control system as recent small wind machines, tested and patented by the author, the Toroidal Engine has a potential energy density of millions of times that of its atmospheric cousins (e.g. Negative “Green Premium”) as well as the ability to continuously generate power on demand 24/7/365 via foot pedal/auto control. Utility Scale wind machines, as well as ice boats, capture only the Tangential portion of the Lift Forces generated or about 6% of the total; the Normal forces are totally unutilized and wasted trying to tip over the tower/boat. My Toroidal Engine and systems capture and utilizes both. |

The Toroidal Engine incorporates a high-speed gas flow similar to jet engines, but enclosed, sealed and recirculating within the Toroidal casing. It has a centrally located single rotating turbine disc incorporating both a hi lift/low drag (Douglas/Liebeck LNV109A preferred) outer turbine, generating the power, with an inner axial flow turbine on the same disc, providing the flow.
It uses Lift Forces similar to the way that traditional jet engines use fuel and the resultant expansion effects of heat, but unlike jet engines and steam turbines, which are exclusively reaction or impulse machines, wherein the blades are invariably moving slower than and WITH the gas flow, my Toroidal Engine Lift Force blades are literally sucked into and rotate INTO the flow at 3-6 times the speed of the gas, in apparent violation of Newton’s 3rd Law, but quite similar to ice boats. |

After startup, it needs no fuel and expels no particles of any kind to generate thrust and yes, it is perpetual, because of one simple indisputable fact: its Lift Turbine L/D ratio equals greater than ONE, and in fact is closer to 150:1, or more precisely, the Tangential component of the Lift Force in the direction of rotation is greater than the Tangential component of the Drag Forces opposing it. Anytime you have a process wherein the gain to pain, or profit to loss is greater than one, you have the makings of a perpetual energy machine (PEM), in my view. All that was missing was the machine to exploit that fact; understanding the details of the process is/was unnecessary.) Since it is not a heat engine, none of the various Thermo Laws prohibiting PEM apply.
To be very clear to all, my Toroidal Lift Force Engine manufactures energy from zip and there are no laws and/or mechanisms known to the author prohibiting it. The thrust generated is the Normal component of the Lift Force and is directly from the asymmetrical pressure distribution of the flow over the Lift Turbine and is independent of the surrounding atmosphere, if any, and additionally is independent of the speed of the vehicle in which it is mounted.

No particles of any kind are evicted from the sealed pressurized Toroidal container, which apparently, directly disproves conventional wisdom’s interpretation of the universality of Newton’s 3rd Law. This allows a suitable vehicle in which it is mounted to reach velocities of the speed of light, 186,282 miles/sec., after accelerating at only one g in about 11 months. Higher acceleration rates would of course shorten that time; Earthlings can soon enjoy hopping to any point on our planet within an hour, skipping over to the Moon for a quickie Lunch, not to mention weekend jaunts to Mars, using this technology.

The Tangential component of this Lift Force drives the axial flow turbine, and the speed control mechanism, as well as any and all accessories, same as on my earlier wind machines. Since it has internal flow velocities similar to jet engines, but can be pressurized to a hundred atmospheres or more, it enjoys unprecedented energy densities and potential accelerations over all competing vehicles, as additionally it need not carry around a mountain of fuel to get from A to B.

The most suitable shape for a vehicle using this technology seems to be a symmetrical saucer type shape which can rotate 180°’s midflight to keep the g forces in the same direction for the comfort of its occupants at all times, during acceleration and deceleration. This acceleration/deceleration feature, of course, apparently disproves the universality of Newton’s famous First Law, Conservation of Momentum. It renders Rockets, submarines, renewables and wind turbines of all sizes and present flying machines and engines of all types obsolete, not to mention most all existing ground and/or sea-based heat engines, no longer cost effective.

OJB: I have identified six major applications and/or markets
1) Automotive/Trucks and Buses. I will start with Street Legal dune buggies, giving these folks the ability to compete with the likes of Tesla, as the Toroidal Engine is simpler, needs less maintenance and eliminates the need for rare earths, inverters, batteries, fuel and or recharging/refueling.
2) Long/short haul airplanes, helicopters, rockets. This is only technology known, capable of successfully decarbonizing these applications, enhancing their performances, lowering their capital and operational costs, as well as extending their ranges. 3) Boats of all types and sizes, as machines equipped with my Toroidal engine need no fuel and or batteries, in addition to being virtually noiseless and maintenance free. 4) Mobile home commuter survivor machines, with power. Live and work from anywhere. The ultimate survivor machine, under the ocean, Montana, Mars or outer space. 5) On site Distributed Micro Grid Power, for cities, buildings and mfg (e.g. A/C, cement, steel, etc), 24/7/365. Nucs just lost their job boiling water, petro not required. Renewables not cost effective. Kiss them all goodbye. Franchises, protected territories, available. 6) Intergalactic Travel. Yes, I fully believe that my Toroidal Engine is the same as that used on frequently sited, but still TABOO, UFO’s as such vehicles can accelerate/decelerate at one g forever with the unheard-of, unthinkable, but now possible, feature of “unlimited range at the speed of light.
